Nominations are now open for Crain's Notable Women in Nonprofits.

Women comprise about 70 percent of the nonprofit workforce, but the gender equity gap has them lagging behind in leadership roles. Crain’s Detroit Business seeks to honor those women who make a significant impact at Michigan nonprofits, from grassroots to large philanthropic organizations. These professionals bolster fundraising, membership, programs, volunteerism and other noteworthy initiatives. They build up their communities and tear down barriers.

The deadline to nominate a candidate for this award program is Friday, September 16. After being nominated, candidates will have until Friday, September 23 to complete a separate application.

Winners will be featured in a December 8 special section of Crain's Detroit Business.

Individuals who have earned a Notable in Michigan Award in the past 12 months are not eligible for this honor. Please review the criteria for consideration before completing the nomination form. Self-nominations are accepted.

In order to be considered for this award, a nominee must:

  • be a Michigan resident.
  • be a woman employed by or serving in a leadership board position at a nonprofit organization.
  • serve in a senior-level role (four levels removed or fewer from the executive director, president or CEO).
  • make a measurable impact in her role and demonstrate the power to effect change.
  • make significant contributions within the nonprofit sector and the community.

Nominees will be notified via email and invited to complete a more detailed candidate form (due by September 23). Please let your nominee know to expect an email from Crain's Detroit Business and set email permissions to allow communications from nominations@crain.com to ensure this and subsequent emails are not relegated to spam or clutter.

Final decisions about who is selected for the special section will be communicated directly to candidates.
